Proposal to Redesignate Furness School

Updated August 2014:

The public notice, published in the Dartford Messenger on Thursday 26 June 2014, has now expired.  No comments were received and the proposal to redesignate Furness School to become a school for high functioning children with ASD will therefore be implemented with effect from 1 September 2014.

Updated 26 June 2014:

The consultation on the proposal to redesignate Furness School to become a school for high functioning children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder has now ended and the outcome of the consultation reported to the Cabinet Member for Education and Health Reform.  The report is available below. 

Mr Roger Gough, Cabinet Member for Education and Health Reform, considered the responses to the consultation and agreed that a public notice should be issued.  The public notice, published in the Dartford Messenger on Thursday 26 June 2014 can be found below, together with the complete proposal.  The closing date for sending in written responses supporting, objecting or commenting on the proposal is 23 July 2014 and written representations should be sent to David Adams, Area Education Officer, South Kent Office, Kroner House, Eurogate Business Park, Ashford, Kent TN24 8XU.

Kent County Council would like to hear your views on a proposal to change the designation of Furness School from a school for pupils with Behavioural Emotional and Social Needs to a school for pupils with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

It is proposed that this will take place for September 2014.

The public consultation will run from 23 April to 20 May.  There will be a public meeting at Furness School on Monday 12 May at 7pm.

The consultation document below gives you details of the proposal, information on the background to it, and outlines the current position.  There is a form at the end which we ask you to complete and return to us no later than 20 May 2014.
