Oakley School - Proposed Expansion

Update - 28 February 2017

Following the end of the Public Notice Period, Kent County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Health Reform, Mr Roger Gough, took the decision to implement the proposal to increase the designated number of places at Oakley School and to extend the lower age range to age 2 for 1st September 2017 in order to develop an observation and assessment nursery provision. This decision is subject to the local authority obtaining planning permission for the new school buildings.

Update - 6 January 2017

The public notice, published in the Kent Messenger on 6 January 2017 can be found below, together with the complete proposal and report.  The closing date for sending in objections and comments is 3 February 2017 and written representations should be sent to Jared Nehra, Area Education Officer for West Kent, Sessions House, County Hall, Maidstone. Update - 23 December 2016

The consultation on the proposed changes to Oakley School has now closed. The outcome of the consultation was reported to KCC’s Education and Young People's Services Cabinet Committee on 23 November 2016.   

The Committee resolved to endorse the proposal. Following this the Cabinet Member for Education and Health Reform took the decision to proceed with the proposal. The Record of Decision and consultation report are available in the 'Summary of Results' section below.

The next stage of the process will be to issue a  Public Notice which we anticipate will happen early January 2017.

Original consultation text

Kent County Council, with the support of the Governing Body of Oakley School, is consulting on a proposal to increase the designated number of places offered at the School (from 218 to 242) and extend the lower age range of Oakley in order to allow the admission of pupils from the age 2 for the 1st September 2017.  The consultation will run from 12 September to 10 October 2016.

You are welcome to attend the drop-in information sharing session at Oakley School, Woodland Lodge, Pembury Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN2 4NE from 3.30 – 5.00 on Tuesday 27th September 2016. In attendance will be the Headteacher and governor representatives from Oakley School and officers from Kent County Council. We will be pleased to talk you through the plans and to answer any questions you may have.
