|Station Road West, Canterbury - Pedestrian improvements
We are widening and resurfacing the pavement that runs alongside the public car park and removing the short section of cycle lane near the station. Cyclists will instead be directed along Kirby’s Lane when heading to and from the city centre. We will also be installing a new zebra crossing close to the junction with Station Road West. Station Road West forms an important pedestrian link between the West Station and the city centre. The pavement alongside the car park is not particularly wide and the existing surface is not in good condition, hence the plans to improve this. The cycle lane that was put in as part of the station improvement scheme is therefore no longer needed and can be returned to pedestrian use. Pedestrians currently have difficulty crossing Station Road West at times, especially near the St Dunstan's Street junction and a new zebra crossing is to be provided to resolve this issue.
