Westwood Road, Broadstairs at the Margate Road Roundabout

We are carrying out highway improvement works

What are we planning to do?

Kent County Council are planning to carry out work to modify the Westwood Road approach to the Margate Road roundabout to increase the capacity for waiting vehicles, by relocating the existing island.

When will the work start and how long will it take?

The work will take two weeks to complete, commencing on Monday 1st October 2018, between the hours of 8.00am and 5.00pm. We will also put up signs along the road, in advance of the works, indicating the planned start date.

How will we carry out the works and how will it affect you?

The island relocation works will be undertaken by closing the off leg of the Westwood Road arm of the roundabout for five days. Vehicles will be diverted via Poorhole Lane and westbound traffic along Westwood Road will be un-effected. The remaining works on the southern footway can be completed by using signing, coning and guarding whilst maintaining two-way traffic flow. The carriageway re-surfacing will be undertaken using an overnight road closure for two nights, again traffic will be diverted via Poorhole Lane.

Why do we want to do this work?

To increase queuing capacity for vehicles in Westwood Road.

Keeping you and our staff safe

We want to complete the works as quickly as we can and without causing you too much inconvenience. Please respect our workers’ space and safety by driving carefully and slowly through the roadworks. Feedback from our workers shows that too many drivers go too fast through roadworks. Everyone is entitled to a safe workplace and our staff work next to moving traffic and risk injury every day to maintain and improve the highway for everyone.
