Consultation: 15 October 2014 to 5 January 2015

Emotional well-being plays a crucial role in the journey from childhood to adolescence and adulthood, shaping our ability to learn and develop, to form and maintain healthy relationships, and to achieve a range of positive long-term outcomes.

Children and young people’s emotional wellbeing (which includes mental health) is an area of concern at both national and local levels, and across the country there is increasing demand for support from specialist mental health services.

The Kent Children’s Health and Wellbeing Board (which draws together partners including Clinical Commissioning Groups, Kent County Council Education and Young People’s Services, Social Care Health & Wellbeing, District Councils, and Voluntary and Community Sector groups) have been working to develop a new draft Emotional Wellbeing Strategy for children, young people and young adults (0-25) in Kent.

Part 1 of this draft Strategy sets out four key outcomes – Early Help, Access, Whole Family Approaches and Recovery and Transition – which have been identified by children, young people and families in our initial consultation exercises as being key to improving the offer and overall experience of support around emotional wellbeing.  A fifth ‘overarching’ outcome will centre on promoting emotional well-being at every developmental stage and level of need.

How to get involved and have your say:

We would like to hear your views about the principles set out in Part 1 of our draft Strategy, and also your thoughts about how these principles could be put into practice within a Delivery Plan (which will be Part 2 of the Strategy).

The draft Strategy document is available below. Please let us know your thoughts by completing the online questionnaire. Alternative formats of any of the consultation material can be requested via alternativeformats@kent.gov.uk.

The consultation will run from 15th October to 5th January 2015.  Your responses, along with an Equality Impact Assessment, will shape our thinking around the principles of the Strategy and the content of the Delivery Plan.  Interim findings will be presented to the Kent Children’s Health and Wellbeing Board on 28th November, and the complete Strategy comprising Parts 1 and 2 is expected to be presented in February 2015.
