Update - October 2018

Thank you to everyone who took part in this consultation.   The consultation report is now available in the Summary of Results section below.

This report summarises the responses received on the alternative route during the second consultation period and is intended to provide the information needed to make an informed decision on whether the proposal should be taken forward. The final decision will be made by KCC officers in discussion with Gravesham Borough Council.

Original Text

Kent County Council (KCC) is proposing to create a signed cycle route from Gravesend Train Station to Cyclopark on Wrotham Road.

The proposed route aims to provide a quieter alternative to the existing cycle lane on the busy A227, used predominantly by experienced cyclists. By offering a quieter alternative journey the route aims to attract less experienced cyclists, allowing them to gain confidence whilst encouraging everyday cycling.

The previous consultation and feasibility study can be viewed on the Consultation Directory: www.kent.gov.uk/gravesendcycleroute

Why do we need to make changes?

The responses received during the previous consultation, whilst in support of the idea of a quiet route between the two locations proposed, did raise concerns regarding the route taken.

As a result of this feedback, the proposed route has now been reviewed and an alternative option suggested. For details of the feedback and how we have modified the suggested route, please see the ‘You Said, We Did’ section in the Appendix.

Have your say
We want to hear your views on this proposal.
All consultation material including the consultation document, the scheme EqIA and the full route designs are available in the Document section below.

Consultation Events
We have organised a consultation event where members of the team will be available to answer your questions. This event will be held as follows.

Tuesday 3 July 2018, Coldharbour Library 12pm – 7pm

Paper copies of this document and the scheme plan are available on request from gravesendcycleroute@kent.gov.uk

Next steps
Following this consultation, a report will be compiled summarising the analysis of the responses. This report will be made available to consultees. The consultation responses and EqIA will be used to inform the decision on whether to proceed with this scheme. The proposal will also be presented to the Gravesham Joint Transportation Board before construction begins.

If following this consultation the decision is taken to proceed with the proposed scheme, our intention is to start onsite during autumn 2018. It is unlikely that road closures will be required as there will be limited work on the carriageway, however we will endeavour to ensure that any inconvenience is kept to a minimum.
