Introduction

Kent County Council (KCC) is consulting on school term and holiday date patterns and we would like to know your views on the proposed dates.

In accordance with our usual practice, we are consulting on arrangements for a two-year period covering the academic years 2020/21 and 2021/22 inclusive. The calendars are set out in the documents attached below.

KCC will consult with various groups including all Kent schools via the e-bulletin, other key stakeholders such as governors (including parent groups), the diocesan bodies, trade unions and our neighboring authorities.  The consultation process will last for 6 weeks and be open to the general public.  Feedback from this consultation will be reported to the Children, Young People and Education Cabinet Committee for their consideration and following their recommendations the Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education will take the decision to determine the dates for 2020/21 and 2021/22. (The proposed dates can be viewed in the 'Consultation Documents' section below).

KCC is responsible for setting term dates for community and voluntary controlled schools, while governing bodies of foundation and voluntary aided schools are responsible for setting their own term dates.  Academies (and free schools) have the freedom to change the length of terms.
